The stories of this anthology are interwoven within the contemporary story. Travel writer, Jack Andrews, comes to Ballymara to write an expose of the famous Pledging Stone. Moyra O'Cullen believes he is coming to help spread the word about the historic place. As they dig deeper into history, they encounter several stories. Cowboy Nick Dalton is injured in 1895 Ballymara and Keely O'Cullen helps her doctor father care for him. In 1359, Breanda and Ardghal, two orphans, are raised in Ballymara castle. In 500, Conn a holy man meets Sorcha the daughter of a Druid poet.
This book is delightful. The historical stories weave seamlessly into the modern tale. The look into life in these divergent eras are wonderfully told as well as historically accurate. All of the characters are three dimensional, some even quirky. Readers will laugh and cry as they experience the multifaceted lives.
I highly recommend this book. I felt as if I were in Ireland while I read it.
