Venus,
goddess of Love has made a bet with Mars, god of War that without using
magic
she will be able to get two humans to fall in love.
Venus takes their son, Cupid with her on her
quest and they find themselves earthbound at a school, training
bodyguards for
those who need them. The human couple
targeted for their bet is Olivia Montgomery and Gideon White Eagle. Olivia’s father, an Ambassador, feels she
needs to learn to defend herself since he has been assigned to a
violent
country. Gideon is the owner of the
school and owes her father a favor. Can
Venus and Cupid get these two together using just human ingenuity?
Olivia is a
woman who knows her role in life. She
has been the perfect daughter and is socially correct. She
has lived her life on the straight and
narrow. Gideon’s idea of what and who
she is shatters when he begins getting to know her.
Olivia is no “airhead” or piece of “fluff” as
Gideon first thought. Gideon’s
attraction to her builds as the story progresses and he has a hard time
resisting it. He is more than impressed
when she comes up with ideas to further his business and frankly, a
little
disappointed in himself that he didn’t think of them first. Gideon is a bit stubborn, but soon
realizes
the depth of his feelings for her. These two are very sweet together as
they
take the steps forward as well as backward in building a permanent
relationship. Unfortunately, the
path of true love never
runs smoothly and they do hit a bump in the road.
Not only do
we have Olivia and Gideon, but also Venus and Cupid’s relationship is
examined. Venus is a goddess and she
expects to be treated as such. She comes
across as a very needy person. Her son
has indulged and catered to her but Cupid wants to grow up and sever
the apron
strings. He has been forced to act as a
referee for his parents but he does love them both. Cupid’s
characterization is very poignant as
we could empathize with his feelings and desires. All
of the characters are well defined, as
this reader could picture them in her mind.
They do grab your attention and they inspired the
reader to keep turning
the pages.
The
Dazzling Debutante
had this reader chuckling all the way through.
It is a well-written and very fun jaunt.
Filled with entertaining characters as well as a
strong romantic
storyline, The Dazzling Debutante will satisfy all those who
love their
romance books with a touch of the paranormal.
