Isabel Harrison
could be mistaken for a headhunter by her job description, but she is
far from
it. Isabel is hired by companies to find suitable job candidates for
their
companies. She does the legwork and at times brings people better jobs,
benefits and opportunities with these new companies. But when she looks
to Alex
Trahern’s assistant, Marcus, to see if he is happy working for Trahern,
she
comes face to face with Alex, who proves to be a force to be reckoned
with. He
won’t allow her to steal away his top employee and will do whatever it
takes to
stop it from happening. Only he never expected to fall for his enemy’s
daughter
and want a forever with her. For years Alex has wanted revenge on the
man he
believes killed his father but when he meets Isabel, he knows she is
nothing
like her father. He just has to show her that business doesn’t matter
and the
he wants her for himself.
Isabel
wants a simple life – home, husband and children. Having had one bad
relationship after another, she decides its time to find a suitable man
for the
future. When she meets Alex Trahern she sizes him up to her list –
sexy, driven
and fascinating – but she doesn’t trust him. With her approaching his
employee,
to his past with her father, Isabel doesn’t know if he’s the right man
for her.
She knows he wants something from her, and he is relentless to have it…
Lucy
Monroe’s latest release is an interesting tale of driven and strong
characters
in Come Up and See Me Sometime.
Isabel and Alex must face their hurtful pasts before either of them can
face
the future with the other. There is a lot of emotion in this story,
with their
pasts and their insecurities, plus there is plenty of sexual tension
between
the characters.
Unfortunately
for me, I just couldn’t connect with Alex or Isabel. I found in many
ways Alex
pushed too hard and Isabel gave in too easily. There were times when
the roles
were reversed but I just couldn’t get a real consistent feel for these
characters, unlike previous releases from this author. I wasn’t pulled
into the
characters lives. Alex started off wanting to use a relationship with
Isabel to
obtain the information on the person who hired her to interview Marcus,
to
suddenly wanting to spend more and more time with her. Isabel, knowing
this,
accepted Alex into her life, all the while still questioning his
motives. Trust
needed to be established and it was, but I found myself at times
questioning
whether or not they had ulterior motives.
While the
main characters left me wanting more of individuality, I won’t let it
deter me
from reading this author again. Overall, Come
Up and See Me Sometime is passionately written and there are
some
humourous moments. This was not the best story Ms. Monroe’s has written
for
this reader, but I do look forward to her next release.
