In the best of the Sister Chick series, this Down Under, made me sad, happy, and more than once I caught myself nodding in agreement.
Kathleen has little trepidation joining husband Tony on a three month work trip to New Zealand. Once she sees the ‘house’ with the hobbit statue guarding the front garden, reality begins to kick in followed closely by depression. The realization of no internet, no television, no friends, and with Tony’s long work hours, pity hops on depression and Kathleen starts sinking fast. Until the day she makes the trek to the Chocolate Fish deli. This journey becomes a daily trek and one day God smiles on Kathleen.
Jill can’t believe she’s been a widow for one year. A young widow at that. If it weren’t for the Chocolate Fish she’d have no place to sit, contemplate and release emotions. This day is different though. An accent she recognizes, a new visitor and Jill is immediately intrigued.
Kathleen can’t believe the weeping woman is from America, too! It’s not long before these two kindred spirits become fast Sisterchicks friends and are traveling together, working through Jill’s grief, and drawing closer to the Lord. Together they discover the beauty of God’s handiwork in New Zealand and the joy that comes when kindred spirits meet and become Sister Chick friends: n: a friend who shares the deepest wonders of your heart, loves you like a sister, and provides a reality check when you’re being a brat.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, the setting is awesome, the characters so likeable and the storyline faith filled without being heavy. A great quick read that is highly recommended.
