This Biblezine is a great resource for young girls. Interspersed among the pages of easy to understand scripture are tips on beauty, ways to get involved in missionary work, and opportunities to aide your community. But the best parts are the quizzes, the Blab sections which are not blab at all, but difficult questions and expert answers. Also, the Learn It and Live It section is a good tool for getting into the Word and applying it to everyday life. There a blank pages to take notes monthly calendars.
The New Christian Version is easy to understand yet stays true to the original text. Take for instance, the 23rd Psalm – it reads instead of The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want – the Lord is my shepherd, I have everything I need….instead of Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I shall fear no evil – Even if I walk through a very dark valley I will not be afraid. Not much of change but enough that this book will reach those both churched and unchurched and that is what the Word is all about, what good will it do if those who need it can’t understand it?
I’ve read some controversy about these Biblezines and I am a little confused about the negative things said. Some people are concerned because the books are flashy and worldly, and they are, but balanced with Christian content and scripture it’s so much better than the alternative. If young women are going to read beauty tips and get advice about boys, and they will, isn’t it better they get wholesome, Christian balanced advice?
I highly recommend this for Easter, graduation…..hopefully we’ll see a new one annually.
