Stella Rice is a thirty something woman who has had it with men. Her most recent boyfriend, Paul, while outwardly successful, is no one’s ideal date. She decides that she’s going to swear off men. Unfortunately, her best friend has nagged her into taking a kickboxing class with Jake. Katarina is looking for a new man, and wants Stella along for support. Stella hates getting up early, and keeps showing up late for class.
Jake is an amazing looking guy. He’s totally built, and decides that Stella is his personal project. He calls her into an equipment room and orders her to do push ups, and then criticizes her for her physical weakness. Stella notices he has an erection and thinks perhaps he’s a dom.
Later, Stella and Jake meet up at a bar when she’s out with friends. He indicates a lot of interest in her, and she decides to take him up on it. To say much more would spoil the story, but suffice it to say it’s blistering hot.
This is the first of Adrienne Kama’s twelve installments of The Chronicles of Stella Rice. I liked the interaction between Stella and Katarina, as well as between Stella and Jake. Stella is one sassy lady, with an attitude that doesn’t quit. The story is told in the first person, and has a Chick Lit designation. One installment is going to be published each month. As a result, there is not a happily ever after ending to this tale.
For those who like it smoking, this will be a good series of books. However, be aware that there is implied m/m interaction as well as explicit BDSM descriptions.
