After finding her father's journal and discovering that she is the daughter of a spymaster, Charlotte Sinclair decides to be a little adventurous. Spotting the handsome and dangerous Nicholas Wright at a party, and deciding that he is acting somewhat suspiciously, she follows him.
Charlotte witnesses an act of treason, and is discovered. One of the odious men plotting against her beloved England decides that she must be dealt with. However, before any harm can come to her, Nicholas volunteers for the job and abducts Charlotte to keep her safe.
Nicholas Wright is on a mission for the Crown, posing as a traitor. He doesn't have time to be hampered by a woman - and certainly not one bent on causing him trouble. But, in order to save the beautiful Charlotte from certain death, he must take on the added burden.
Charlotte is determined to escape, and Nicholas is just as determined to keep her. Somehow, he is falling in love with the courageous beauty. Charlotte feels that she may be falling in love, too - if she just knew which side the dashing Nicholas Wright was really on.
Author Gayle Callen has woven another masterful tale in the writing of THE BEAUTY AND THE SPY, the second in the “Spies and Lovers” trilogy. Filled with all of the romance and adventure that one expects from Ms. Callen, THE BEAUTY AND THE SPY is sure to delight readers who love a good Victorian romance. Callen's quick wit and sense of fun make this novel as a keeper. I am eagerly awaiting the next book in the series.
