Richard is
a powerful Solarian Raven, a healer of the Realm. He
can heal others; take away their pain
using his telepathic abilities. He can
no longer bear his duties. He cannot
stand to take another’s pain. He must,
for his own sanity, leave the Realm. He
rides out to lend his sword to Robert the Bruce. He
will lose himself in mindless battles, and
perhaps he will keep his sanity.
Megan
McKinney could never resist an animal (or person for that matter) in
need. She could sense Richard’s pain and
was
compelled to help him. Though not much
is known about the fierce warrior, other than he is called the Raven,
and said
to be marked with the bird of death. Although
he rebuffs her advance of friendship, Megan is not too concerned. She is a determined lass, plus she senses
that this is his defense mechanism against the world at large. Richard
cannot believe how drawn he is to this beautiful, bold woman. He finds himself letting down his guard
around her.
A vicious
plot meant to rekindle old feuds places Megan in danger.
Richard is forced to accept the depth of his
feelings for this persistent flame haired beauty. Can
Richard retrieve his bonny beauty
unharmed?
Gone is the
light-hearted Richard we met in the previous book.
This brooding, self-contained man is so
lonely; it tugs at your heart-strings.
Richard sees his healing abilities as more curse
than blessing. Megan is patient with
Richard’s surly
self. She realizes that he is deeply
wounded and approaches him cautiously, as she would a wild animal. She gradually wins his trust and love. Megan has the patience of a saint. The way she woos Richard is a lesson in
humility on her part. Ms. Monet doesn’t
disappoint, Richards story is more than I could have anticipated. Once again, Rae Monet has gifted us with a
stellar novel of love and healing, from her alternate historic world of
the
Solarians.
