As you might be able to tell from the book’s title, the three stories in this anthology are funny and deal with vampires. This anthology shows that laughs and bites are a great combination.
Rednecks ‘n’ Roses by Judy Mays
Vampires are tall, dark, and menacing, right? So why on Earth does Amber have a red-haired, bushy-bearded vampire named Rusty Nipples sleeping in her bathtub?! Poor Amber, a wannabe romance writer, doesn’t know what to do with this vampire who doesn’t act like a vampire. Obviously, he needs help in becoming a proper vampire, and she’s the perfect person for the job.
At first, I was very unsure about this story as I found the premise to be quite unusual. As I read on, however, I started to enjoy the good sense of humour in the story. I especially liked Rusty’s comebacks. My only criticism is that it seemed Amber and Rusty fell in love with each other a little too quickly. To me, they seemed to jump from being enemies to being deeply in love within too short a time period. Despite this, I still enjoyed the story.
WARNING: Story contains oral sex and non-sexual violence.
Fangs ‘n’ Foxes by Mardi Ballou
Darnell, the leader of the Black Guards, is about to battle with the Cosa Nostra for control of Trenton, New Jersey. Darnell isn’t just a gang leader however; he’s the leader of an elite gang of vampires, and the Cosa Nostra is the equivalent of the vampire mafia. Days before the big fight, Darnell discovers he has a sore fang and he needs to find a dentist ASAP. What he gets is some loving treatment by a very special Tooth Fairy who’s out to convince him to make love, not war.
This is a story about gangstas vs. gangsters. I found it to be quite silly, but still fun to read. However, I also found the story loses steam towards the end. I wished it had a more engaging ending.
WARNING: Story contains multiple partners as well as oral and anal sex.
Frannie ‘n’ the Private Dick by Delilah Devlin
Frannie is having a very bad day. First, she finds out her fiancé is cheating on her. Then, after drowning her sorrows at a local bar, she gets run over on her way home! What’s a girl to do when she wakes up in a funeral parlour? Luckily she’s got Niall, a sexy Irish vampire, to teach her the ropes….
This story has a great sense of voice; I could hear the Italian New York City accent in my head as I read. The setting and dialogue of the story makes you think of old-fashioned detective stories. The banter between Frannie and Niall is fun to read, and the story has a good pace. In my opinion, this was the best story of the book.
WARNING: Story contains oral and anal sex.
