After witnessing her fiancé, Jason Sentron, kill a prostitute, Kerry Reynolds runs for her life. Her family is determined that she marry the evil Jason because of his wealth and social standing, but Kerry refuses to be involved with anyone so immoral and therefore runs to the other side of the country. Kerry was raised in wealth, but after her money runs out, she is forced to live life as a homeless person. When her car is towed, she has no shelter and her choices are limited. She can’t go a shelter because she’s afraid Jason will find her, so she decides to sell herself.
Rick Abernathy is sitting in a bar with his cousin when Kerry walks in. She’s dirty and smells, but there is something about her that brings out Rick’s protective nature. Evan, Rick’s cousin has taken him to the bar to get laid. Rick lived as a monk in a monastery in the Himalayas for the past eighteen years so he’s never experienced the sexual side of life…until now. Evan recognizes Kerry as the homeless girl whose car he towed earlier that day so he tries to steer Rick away from her, but Rick has other ideas. Rick takes Kerry home and offers her a place to stay until she’s on her feet. The attraction is there, but Rick won’t act on it because he doesn’t want Kerry to feel obligated to him.
Kerry doesn’t know who to trust. She knows Jason is pure evil and will stop at nothing to find her and kill her. Since her father helped cover up the murder of the prostitute, Kerry knows she can’t get help from her parents either. Rick’s patience and kindness finally brings Kerry around and she begins to trust and love him. Rick finds himself falling for her too.
ENLIGHTENED LOVE contains intrigue, romance and well developed characters. The secondary characters range from the evil Jason, to suspicious and selfish Evan and the kind hearted Lydia. As Kerry and Rick explore their relationship, they draw the reader into the story and keep you focused on them until it’s time to settle the score. It’s an intensely sexual book without all the hardcore terms, there are a few, but they are limited which makes the story more appealing. Hot…but not hardcore, it’s a definite recommend for me.
