Words can heal, comfort, mend, and yet words can destroy, mar, divide and humiliate. When this smallish book with its cheery salmon colored cover arrived, I was instantly intrigued. I love words. I would not venture to call myself a wordsmith, but no one enjoys the business of words more than I. Words to Live by for Women does not fail to educate, entertain, and enlighten.
The book is set-up to explore 60 of the most thought provoking, meaningful, applicable to women words found in the Bible. Each word has a descriptor, scripture emphasis and message or explanation enabling us to use the word and connect with God.
In today’s world, one word garnering a lot of attention is ‘character’. Now some can’t seem to figure out what that means. What exactly is this thing – Character. It so happens that character is one of the 60 words listed and this is how it is describe:
Char-ac-ter Noun
1. An individual’s disposition or reputation.
2. The mettle revealed when one is tested or tried.
3. Integrity or fortitude.
4. Biblical: the constant striving for moral and ethical words and actions that imitate Jesus.
5. Personal. The complex of traits that define personality.

A quote by Charles Jefferson is alongside the contemporary explanation. Two more scriptures are given at the end of the message along with quotes by Peter Marshall and Stephan Nelson. A small lavender box entitled etcetera gives us some commonly known things about character. The bold paragraph at the end tells us succinctly how Character is used in our relationship with God. This is followed by a prayer of petition asking God for His help in building in us a strong character. All that for just one word!!
An outstanding study guide; Word to Live By For Women gives us the tools to draw closer to God.
If you struggle with understanding God, His ways, His purpose or like me, you want to develop a closer relationship with him, I encourage you to get a copy of this book. A nice presentation page and pretty cover also make this book a nice gift.
Although it doesn’t say on the cover who the author is, on the inside it lists Janet Bly. She is steadily gaining as one of my favorite authors. I highly recommend this book!
