Mackenzie and Cedric have made a new life for themselves in the mortal world. They are married in a human ceremony, though it doesn't bind them in the faerie world. Mack and Cedric are very much in love, and hope she gets pregnant soon. Unfortunately, Mackenzie knows she is dying
-- Rowan's magic hold on her has not been broken. She doesn't want to tell Cedric, because they are very happy together.
Cedric leaves for an overnight business trip and Rowan - Prince Elywn - comes to their home to claim her. In order to save Cedric's life, Mack agrees to return to the Unblessed Court and marry Rowan. She leaves a note for Cedric telling him she has gone back with Rowan and not to follow her.
When Cedric comes to Mackenzie's rescue, he learns the truth that she will soon die. Because she has bonded with both men, she will die without sharing both sex and magic with each.
This is the second of three installments of the Peace Offerings series. Mandy M Roth has created a woman who loves two very different men. Mackenzie is physically and emotionally torn by her love for both. Rowan is the Prince of the Unblessed Court, while Cedric is a soldier of the Blessed Court. Mackenzie is pure faerie, and thus can literally die of a broken heart. This story encompasses danger, passion, love and terror. Somehow, the author brings the reader to a place of understanding how Mackenzie can love and need two men. She is a sympathetic character, and the men have to decide if their love for Mackenzie is strong enough to share her.
The story is well written, with a good pace, and I want to know what happens next. For those who like this type of story, I highly recommend it. Please be aware that the warning from the publisher is not an exaggeration.
