Eric swore
as a child to destroy as many monsters as he could in the name of the
Unkindness of Ravens. He swore this while watching his mother try to
keep her
composure at his father's burial. The Unkindness wasn't just a band of
vampire
hunters - it was his legacy. And he took this job very seriously.
Lydia was tired of the bar
scene, at 23
she wanted to move on with her career. Which is why she was in the
middle of
the nowhere Maine.
She was researching the effects of logging on the habits of the Maine moose,
working
towards her bachelor’s degree in biology. Little did she know that she
was
camped almost on top of Clutch of rogue vampires' lair. Eric,
undercover in
attempt to locate and destroy all of this Clutch, wasn't sure if he
could
protect her from them.
Anthony
Barack, leader of the vampires Eric has been assigned to destroy, is a
very
worthy opponent. He's not only a vampire; he has the ability to
shape-shift
into wolf form. Barack knew immediately of the woman in his territory.
He knew
as well that Eric had touched her mind, made love to her on the astral
plain.
It amused him to let Eric have his fun with the female first, but
eventually
Barack himself would have her. There was no one around Alpha enough to
challenge his authority. If the lovely human wouldn't come to him
willingly in
human form, then Barack would entice her with his wolf form. What
nature lover
could resist the urge to interact with a wild wolf?
Barack's
interest in Lydia
has forced Eric to speed up his plans for destroying the Clutch.
Vampires are
hard enough to take in, but will she believe that the wolf she's
'tamed' is
after her immortal soul? Eric is going to have a hard time. He needs to
eradicate the clutch, keep his new love safe, and face off with the
most
powerful vampire that he's ever come up against.
This second
installment of the Ms. Neeley's Raven series shows that she is getting
better
and better. Eric the Guardian
borrows elements from John the
Deliverer (Book 1 of the Raven Series) and improves upon it. Lydia's
befuddlement with all that Eric expects her to take on faith alone was
a very
convincing tact. After all, what scientist would believe in vampires?
Barack is
the villain that you love to hate, charismatic but evil. Eric is sweet,
tough
when it comes to protecting the one that he loves. And the sex in this
book...whew - have a glass of ice water at the ready when you delve
into this
novel. A succinctly told story, I can't wait to see what Ms. Neeley
brings us
next.
