Drake Raven
has earned a little R & R, after destroying two vampire Clutches.
The Raven's
have been a part of the Unkindness, an elite group of vampire hunters,
for
generations. He decides to go back to Kentucky
to pay a visit to a little lady who helped him with the whereabouts of
his
cousin, Dirk.
Sheriff
Grace Shanley has to work twice as hard, being the only female sheriff
in her
little county's history. Now she has two bodies up at the abandoned
Salt Lick
mine. These bodies are like nothing she's ever seen; stakes sticking
out of
their chest, decapitated and burned to ash. Not just burned, but ash.
They
can't even touch the body or pieces crumble. Of course, she would get
this kind
of crime scene during an election year.
Unfortunately
for Drake, evidence points to him. He ends up locked in the holding
cell with
the gorgeous sheriff, during a storm. Grace can't believe her luck, the
man
from the bar that had stroked her buttons was back, and it looked as if
her
were a multiple murderer. Grace was really hoping to prove him innocent
because, while she loves him in handcuffs, she would definitely like it
more if
he were naked.
If Grace
thought she had troubles before, they're nothing compared to the
trouble headed
her way. Anthony Barack, a centuries old vampire who has already
escaped
termination from the Unkindness once, is determined to take Grace as
his mate.
Will Drake be able to protect Grace from such a powerful vampire,
especially if
she only believes in what she can see?
Picking up
right where the previous book, Dirk the
Savior ends, in Drake the
Defender we learn about the pretty, young sheriff. Ms. Neeley
is a
masterful storyteller who pulls the reader in from the first page.
Although
this book can stand alone, if you've followed the series you've been
dying to
see the carefree Drake's story. She has also brought back my favorite
undead
nemesis - the dark, sexy Barack, whom we first met in Book 3, Eric the Guardian. Ms. Neeley
keeps getting better with every book in this series. Let's not forget
the hot
sex, Ms. Neeley knows what a woman wants, and has Drake delivering it
in
spades.
