BLACK RED WHITE (ALL THREE BOOKS IN SERIES) by TED DEKKER   WHITE by Ted Dekker BLACK by Ted Dekker

I won BLACK in a contest. Once I read the cover blurb I set the book on my shelf where it sat for a few weeks before my husband – the sci-fi geek in our family – read it. He as immediately immersed in the story and couldn’t stop talking about it.  This guy has dreams and in the dreams he gets messages from big bats.  Okaaayyyy. But he can’t decide if his real life is the dream or if the dream is his real life. Either way the world either one is in a lot of trouble. Reallllly.

The more he shared, the more intrigued I became and that is unusual with this type of book. After all, I’m a woman’s-fiction, romance-loving, emotional-character driven novel reader. I’m not a parallel-world, other dimension bat-talking, reader. I didn’t even enjoy, (dare I say it?) Lord of the Rings!

I received Book 2 – RED, from the publisher to review. I started it but clearly you must read BLACK first. The author even states, ‘if you’ve yet to read BLACK, I strongly encourage you to start there.’ So, I did.

BLACK
ISBN: 0849917905

Thomas Hunter is a struggling writer who works in a coffee shop. Suddenly he’s fleeing down an alley, with bullets zinging by. He’s hit and knocked out. When he comes to he and he encounters odd creatures and realizes he’s hit his head on a rock. He begins searching for Rachelle, his love. When he falls asleep that night, he dreams of Denver and being pursued by the assailants once more. Thomas wakes up in one world when he falls asleep in another. In the Denver world he understands Valborg Svensson plans to release a virus that will kill mankind within three weeks. Only Svensson will have the vaccine that can save the world. Hunter has discovered this and attempts to take control of the situation, now Valborg wants him dead. In the other world of green forests talking bats and cleansing lakes and Books of Histories Thomas quickly rises to the position of General and leads an army in a war against evil.

Two worlds. One savior – Thomas Hunter.

RED The Heroic Rescue
ISBN: 0849917913

Thomas is helping the world’s leaders find a way to deter the terrorists from unleashing the virus. He sleeps and returns to the other world to find out what has happened (as this world is futuristic) in the past world. He sleeps then and uses information gleaned from the future world to help the now world. (I know !!) In the future world he’s now Thomas the Hunter and years have flown by. Now war is on and Thomas’s army battles an enemy that will certainly mean death for this land if they are successful. Playing a pivotal part in each world leaves him exhausted. As he makes the connections between the two worlds, must Thomas decide who/which/where is most important?

WHITE
ISBN 0849917921
Okay, here’s the problem with reviewing all three books at once. Something dramatic happens in RED that leaves one of the world’s almost absent for a bit. WHITE brings the final climax to the story. It is a wonderful beautiful journey of choices, love, forgiveness, and the final battle between good and evil. The settings are fresh and the main event will leave you breathless. A fitting fabulous conclusion to the best Trilogy I’ve ever read.

Dekker is a writer who will not disappoint. His keen spiritual insight and clever/creative storytelling makes reading his books an event.  Very recommended. (If you’re not a fantasy Sci-Fi fan, you will be at the end!)
