Gillian (Gill) Right is tired of her mother pushing her to get married. Just because she's still a virgin at age 30 doesn't mean she's desperate. Her mother, Claire Jensen is a human resources manager for Farraday. Claire has been trying to get Gill and Jeremy Farraday together for years. The fact that Jeremy is heir to the family fortune is more reason to get them together
in her eyes.
Gill figures any man who needs his father to place a "Bride Wanted" ad in the paper must be a total loser. She has her own goals and aspirations. She wants more than anything in the world to become a commercial pilot. In the meantime, she's working as a flight instructor part time. She goes to meet her mother for lunch and is dragged into an interview with Mr. Farraday. After several insulting, demeaning questions, Gill storms out.
Cade is driving a beat up truck when he stalls in the parking garage at Farraday. He blocks Gill's Neon from exiting and she tries to fix the engine for him. She finds him wildly attractive and when her mother comes racing into the garage after her, she uses him to hide. His way of handling the situation is to kiss her. He offers to take her to lunch, but she declines and takes him to McDonald's instead. She figures since he's driving a broken down truck, wearing ratty jeans and shirt he must not be doing very well financially.
Cade has found the woman of his dreams, beautiful, intelligent, savvy, and strong. He wants Gill and will do what it takes to get her. Once he learns she is a flight instructor, he signs up for her class. Cade is impressed by how well Gill handles men who challenge her knowledge and abilities. He continues to pursue her, and finally breaks through her walls. But how will Gill handle it when he reveals his true identity?
I enjoyed the story, including Cade's pursuit of Gill. He is not afraid to reveal his feelings for her, and has to fight her resistance to love and intimacy. The intimate scenes feel natural and appropriate to the development of the relationship. Ms. Batten-Carew is a talented writer, and this was engrossing. If you are looking for a contemporary romance, you won't go wrong with this.
