Dana Madison is tired of being treated like an invalid. She wants freedom and independence from her smothering family. She has a job, her own home and she’s a devoted runner, much to her family’s dismay. After spending Thanksgiving dinner arguing with her family over her ability, or inability, to live a normal life with asthma, Dana takes off for an evening run. The run is cut short when she experiences and asthma attack. Dana stops on the side of the road to try and get her breathing under control, when another runner approaches and asks if she needs help.
Former ski champion, Russ Ettinger is running in his sister’s neighborhood when he comes up on a runner in apparent distress. After he accesses the situation, he leaves the runner with his jacket to go and get his car. When Russ returns, the runner is gone, but something about her captivated him and he’s determined to find her. After several weeks of not finding any clue to his mystery woman, Russ takes his niece to the Library and to his surprise; the Librarian is his beautiful mysterious runner.
Dana thinks Russ is the most attractive man she’s ever seen and knows she’s out of his league, but Russ is determined to prove her wrong and to have a chance with her. When she goes to her favorite sporting goods store to get a new pair of running shoes, she runs into Russ again. She never dreamed that he would actually own the store. After weeks of offers, Dana finally agrees to dinner with Russ. While they both have insecurities to overcome, Russ must convince Dana that he’s fallen in love with her and wants more than just a few dates. What happens from there is beautiful.
The secondary characters in MOMENT TO MOMENT are well developed and bring a solid fusion to the story. Dana’s overprotective parents can’t seem to realize that their smothering is causing Dana’s anxiety and brings on her asthma attacks. Russ’ sister and niece are great fun characters and their relationship gives us a glimpse into the love and caring side of a family without the control issue.
In true Barbara Delinsky fashion, MOMENT TO MOMENT is a stand out book that warms the heart and captivates the reader from page one. In my opinion, if your looking for a book to curl up with that will make you feel good all the way through, pick-up MOMENT TO MOMENT or any Barbara Delinsky book, you won’t be disappointed.
