MASTER MY VIKING by Angel Lynn

Now that he’s chieftain, it’s time for Sigurd Thorgest to get down to the business of producing children and getting married. Unfortunately for him, the marriage arrangement made for him is to Hilde, someone who’s been a pain in his backside ever since they were children. Sigurd, a handsome, stubborn, and fierce warrior, is used to having women fall at his feet. Hilde is a strong-willed and stubborn beauty who has chased off other potential husbands before, and is not willing to give in to Sigurd, a man who became her sworn enemy after he killed her pet rabbit. They butt heads and battle each other as well as their foolish pride.

Humour is a difficult thing to write and an even more difficult thing to pull off. This book tries to make you laugh, and I really, really tried to like it, but I found it disappointing. The book does have some elements of a good book, like action, character conflict, and a cute story. However, these elements aren’t enough to make this a great book.

I picked up this book thinking it would be a fun and easy read. While the book was easy to read, I found myself rolling my eyes at parts of the story. At first the book is somewhat amusing, but the attempts at humour soon became tiresome.

Along with the problem of crossing the line into silliness, I also had an issue with some of the language in the book. This story uses a dialect form of dialogue, peppered with “tis,” “twas,” and words ending with “in’” instead of “ing.” This isn’t consistent however, as the story also uses words like “horny” and “thingy.” While this isn’t a big deal in regards to the overall story, it is a pet peeve of mine.

If you like very silly books, you may enjoy this one. If you tend to prefer wit over silliness, I recommend you try reading something else.
