What a way to end your
vacation—with an alien abduction!
Danica was scuba diving, minding her own business and suddenly she
found that
she was somebody else's. Stuck in a specimen tank with a hungry shark
wasn't
her idea of a good time.
On an alien ship headed
out of Earth's solar system, she's
sure she's awakened to her worst nightmare. And it only gets worse when
they
try to correct their error by abandoning her with survival rations on
an alien world;
she's captured by Taj, the chieftain of the native humanoids, who
claims her as
his slave.
Primitive and barbaric,
they remind Danica of a mix of
Native Americans and Vikings with a certain savage grace. Taj is many a
woman's
dream guy, and he's very good at being bad, making Danica's spine
shiver in
delightful ways.
This reviewer found
Danica to be a sympathetic and charming
heroine who can't save dinner, but certainly has what it takes to save
her new
world. It didn't start out as a love story, but a solid sci-fi tale of
a
stranger in a strange land, with a nice helping of intrigue and the
clash of
cultures as Danica struggles to adapt and have any hope of survival.
Taj proved to be a worthy
fellow, though skeptical at first,
of a woman with the courage to fight for what she believes in. And a
worthy son
of a mother who raised him well and wisely to be the leader he
discovers
himself to truly be.
Ms. O'Connor has added
another jewel in the cap as one of my
favorite authors of speculative romantic fiction. She tells a first
rate tale
first and foremost, weaving in substantial elements of other genres to
make her
endeavors truly memorable. I'd recommend any of her writings to the
reader who
enjoys an intelligent medley of science fiction, romance, action and
the magic
of "what if?"
