Christine Bradley grew up with two wonderful parents who loved her. She was surprised when her mother died and her father tells her that she’d been adopted. Stunned by this news, Christine decides to get acquainted with her biological grandmother.
Knocking on her grandmother’s door, Christine is still trying to decide how to break the news to her. When her grandmother mistakes her for an applicant for a housekeeping position, Christine tries several times to set her headstrong grandmother straight, but she refuses to listen. When Christine finds herself hired, she decides maybe this is the best way. She can become acquainted with her grandmother, and later, when the time is right, introduce herself as her granddaughter.
Soon Christine finds herself in over her head. Will she be able to correct the mistaken identity before Christmas so she can enjoy a family she never knew? Or will the ghosts in this family closet scare her away before she can get acquainted?
THE GIFT OF CHRISTMAS PRESENT is an adorably heartwarming story guaranteed to live in the reader’s heart forever. In Melody Carlson’s heart-tugging style, she introduces you to a family you won’t soon forget. I sympathized with Christine as she tried to get acquainted with her bitter grandmother, and felt for the grandmother as she battled demons of the past.
Some of the history that comes out in the story I found rather disturbing, but the element was handled well.
Pick up a copy of THE GIFT OF CHRISTMAS PRESENT for a read you won’t soon forget. You won’t be disappointed. This small, hardback book would make an excellent Christmas gift for the readers in the family.
