THE WINDMILL by Stephanie Gertler

Olivia is stunned when her husband Carl doesn’t show up for work one day. He is the most stable, dependable, science minded man that she has ever known. So she doesn’t know what to think when he doesn’t go to work, and leaves no word with anyone about his whereabouts. Her mind goes crazy imagining different scenarios, and she worries, thinking the worst. However, it isn’t long before the time to herself causes her to reminisce about her past with Carl, and how they met. Those thoughts cause her to venture back even further, to her first love and the tragic end that came of their relationship. Join Olivia as she attempts to overcome her past hurts to focus on her future with Carl and their adult children.

Carl is harboring secrets about his past, and he has to go back to his roots in order to achieve inner peace. The man that Olivia thinks that she married is not who Carl is, and he fears the worst f he was to tell her the truth. Join Carl on his journey for inner peace and to save his hopes and dreams for his future by coming to terms with his past.

THE WINDMILL is a poignant story that proves that everyone deserves a second chance at love. Ms. Gertler pens a novel that delves into the past and touches an emotion within everyone who reads it. Each chapter lends itself to an individual, helping the reader to get to know the thoughts and feelings of the character, thus leading to a more emotional read. This is a touching novel that shows that everyone has a past and secrets, but they can be overcome them to have a happy life and a good future. Olivia is a character that I appreciated because her past hurts made her close herself off to getting involved again. In spite of herself, she fell in love with Carl, but she couldn’t face the thought of expressing her feelings, therefore she never did. When she thought that she had lost him, she realized that she had to express herself in order to make their marriage better and insure her own mental well being. A good moral to learn - don’t take people for granted because when they’re gone, it might be too late to make things right. THE WINDMILL is a book that everyone should read.
