Dianne and Cole Selby are content in their life on the Diamond V ranch. The ranch is flourishing and their family is growing. But soon their quiet life is threatened when warring Indians inch closer to the valley they call home.
Dianne’s brother, Zane, is leading the army to join up with another regiment to fight the Indians. When Zane arrives, he is horrified to find the other regiment has been brutally slain and all that is left is to bury the dead. The Indians have fled the scene—except for one squaw found with a newborn babe in the bushes. Zane guesses she was giving birth during the actual fighting. His men want to kill the squaw, but Zane insists on taking her to his cabin for care. He is shocked and surprised when he discovers that he has saved someone very important to his family.
A new family settles in the valley next to the Diamond V and they want to own the most land in the area. When the Selby’s and other area ranchers refuse to sell their ranches, the Lawrences determine to get the property they want and nothing will stop them. With the ability to buy off the law, things look bleak for the Selbys and their neighbors. Will they be able to keep the land they’ve grown to love?
TO DREAM ANEW is the first book by Ms. Peterson that I’ve found a page turner. The third book in the Heirs of Montana Series, TO DREAM ANEW easily stands alone, but readers might want to read the previous two books to bring themselves up-to-date with the family history.
I was able to relate better to Dianne in this story better than I was in the previous two books in the series, and found myself cheering the family on as they prepared for Indian attacks, faced off against the Army to try to save Dianne’s half-breed aunt from being forced to a reservation, and then finding themselves with enemies living next door.
Pick up a copy of TO DREAM ANEW today for a story that won’t disappoint.
