RETRIBUTION by Randy Ingersmanson

Rivka Meyers and Ari Kazan are still stuck in Jerusalem. (In the previous two books Transgression and Premonition we learn how they travel through a worm hole and arrive in A.D. 57). They have cautiously settled into a routine life, with the biggest barrier being their differences in faith.

Tension develops between the Jews and political leaders. A sect rises among the Jews. This fringe group of priests tries to recruit Ari so he can develop weapons of war. Ari’s past experience with Christians will weigh heavily on his decision and the outcome could be life changing.

Rivka struggles still with the way she is perceived. As a ‘seer’ she is often called on to tell what will happen next. It is an awesome responsibility and one she doesn’t take lightly. How much information to give is something she struggles with – give too much, could impact the outcome, hold back too much and the results could be devastating. Knowledge gleaned from studies in her ‘other’ life prepare her for the strife to come. Can she be faithful to her husband’s plans even though it may cause horrific personal pain?
Hanna and husband Baruch who have become like family to Rivka and Ari, face a gut wrenching situation and Baruch’s decision changes their lives forever.

Retribution is a feast of plots/themes that include wars, intrigue, romance, suspense among others. But, the book is not easy to read. It’s not hard reading in that the author uses big words, but the engrossing scenes take thought and reflection. (There is one heart-tearing scene that left me exhausted at the end). But, though it is emotionally and spiritually challenging, the author clearly shows the hope and life of God’s sacrificial love – through the gift of His one and only son, Jesus. We are reminded that no matter how long or dark the storms of life are where evil overshadows, our faith will light the way.

Mr. Ingermanson’s writing is dramatic, authentic and persuasive. I hope it’s not too sappy to say that this book will change the way you think about something. I guarantee it.

Retribution wins my reviewers choice award.
