ON THE EDGE OF TIME by Barbara Karmazin

The year is 2079. In the year 2073 scientists discovered a wyrmhole which opened up space to an unexplored solar system and to new nightmares, wyrmdragons.

Helga Guddotter is a serpent hunter. She is one of the elite few that are host to a snake-like entity that manifested itself during the first fatal journey though the wyrmhole. Now, transports of supplies and people are guarded by serpent hunters. Helga, and her serpent Silk, have been together for four years and the only way Helga can interact with Silk in her true form is thorough a virtual reality simulator or in the wyrmhole, where Silk fights along side Helga against the wyrmdragons. Together they’ve shared many things, including lovers, but both Helga and Silk are ready for something more than just sating their sexual needs.

Cord Blackstone was once head of security for one of the wealthiest men in the universe, but quit after finding out that his boss is experimenting on serpent hunters in secret. Cord’s ethics wouldn’t let him stand by while illegal activities are going on so he left in hopes of becoming a serpent hunter himself. Helga is one of the hunters guarding the ship during his flight to see if a serpent will link with him. The attraction is immediate and intense but Cord uses extreme self-control and concentrates on his serpent hunter training.

In the wyrmhole, Cord is linked with Onyx, a male serpent, just as the wyrmdragons attack. Cord is the first to have a male serpent to link with him and now that he’s on equal ground with Helga, he has no hesitation in letting go of that self-control. But their lovemaking has unforeseen consequences. Onyx and Silk reproduce, the first time for their species in ages, but unlike human pregnancies, it is the male that carries the child to term. The lucky male in this case would be Cord.

No sooner do Cord and Helga begin to have feelings for each other, than bribery, fertile serpents, and lack of communication begin to eat away at their relationship. The biggest question of all though, is how will Cord deliver a baby?

I must admit—I am a huge Sci-Fi fan and of course, love romance. Now, I’m a huge Barbara Karmazin fan. Why? Because ON THE EDGE OF TIME is one of the best sci-fi romance blends I’ve ever read. Helga is a no nonsense woman but once she finds her man, being grounded goes out the window and who wouldn’t want a hunky man making our brains mush. Cord does all the right things for all the right reasons, but you got to love him for braving what every woman wishes on a man, pregnancy. In addition to writing great sci-fi, Ms. Karmazin writes intensely erotic sex scenes. Be forewarned, there are multiple sex partners so if that’s not your cup of tea, then I’d choose the coffee. But if you’re up for something new, hot, and titillating, ON THE EDGE OF TIME is worth your time.
