Magazine executive – editor, Laura Draper is on her way to an important meeting. Talking with her love, a well known photojournalist, she’s ready to follow up on the plans they’ve made for their future. But, while sitting in the parking lot of what looks like an abandoned store, he gives her news she can’t believe. When he hangs up she is stunned. And, a storm whips against the car. The weather outside the car is nothing compared to the storm raging in her spirit. Laura doesn’t know what to do, can’t decide where to go, numb with emotion or lack of, she drifts to sleep.
Two elderly ladies knock at the window, awakening her. Laura resists their hassling invitation to come into the rundown shop. But, finally she agrees. As they approach Laura can make out the faded words on the front window. And, what she finds in the warm comfort of the Lone Star Café will change her life forever.
Lisa Wingate’s writing is evocative, compelling, and endearing. I read the book in one sitting because I was immediately enamored of Laura and her cowboy Graham. Not to mention Laura’s relationship with her ailing dad and Graham’s elderly aunts who take everyone under their wing with free advice and great home cooking. I didn’t want to say goodbye!
Want something that will make you feel good about the world? Well, at least about the world Lisa give us? Lone Star Café will not disappoint.
