Imagine being 16 years old. Immersed in a busy life you’re a good student, cheerleader, part-time fast food employee, making big plans for the future. Then you begin to suspect something is wrong. In denial of the truth you make excuses as to why your period is late, why your clothes don’t fit, and maybe it is the stomach flu that strikes in the mornings? Finally, you take a home pregnancy test. The line changes color. You are pregnant. How do you tell your boyfriend? Or ex-boyfriend? What about your parents? Your friends? Your youth group? Your relatives? Your Pastor? Yourself? What about your plans? Your future? How do you talk to yourself so both your baby and you survive and succeed?
The author of LIFE INTERUPPTED, Tricia Goyer, helps young moms tackle all those questions and more. But the best thing about the book is the author has been there. Done that. Lived that. Survived that. Tricia’s story is one of pain/struggle/faith, and triumph.
Life Interrupted is a slim paperback full of real life accounts from young women who have worked through a situation that could have destroyed them. Sections called Life As I See It are reflections from women worldwide, Tricia’s Blab is short sections where the author shares spiritual truth, 4U2 Try are exercises and suggestions for the reader to attempt. Scattered through the book are short quick read sections like: How Do I Do This Mom Thing?, Do I Matter?, I Need A Break, and What Am I Here For?
Encouraging, thoughtful, inspirational, a little provocative, and very hopeful – that is how Life Interrupted came through to me. I’d encourage young moms, and young dads, grandparents, school principals, Pastors, Crisis pregnancy centers, and anyone who has a heart for young people well, you get the idea. This is one valuable resource that offers help and hope in a time of tumultuous crisis.
