In 1918, Marshall’s Bayou
is
barely keeping the families and their lands alive. With a drought that
is
drying up the lands and wells, the cattle are decreasing in size and in
value. For Alberta Strickler, even
though the times are tough, she never plans to leave her home again
after being
away at college. A headstrong woman who
family ties run deep, Alberta
enjoys the love of her family, no matter how crazy they do at times
make her.
The only real contention in her family is her father, “the Judge”, who
Alberta finds
too harsh
and his temperament too volatile for her gentle mother.
Alberta
never plans to let a man rule her life like her father has with her
mother, and
even her attraction to Isaac Broussard is something she vows to control…
Isaac
Broussard, some would say is a ladies man, but he has never laid eyes
on any
other woman who captivates him like Alberta Strickler.
Even though she has told him straight out
that she’s not interested, Isaac can’t get her out of his head. He
didn’t come
to Marshall’s Bayou to find love, but
soon finds
himself hesitant to return to his home in Lafayette. Can
Isaac show Alberta
that he’s the man for her?
As Alberta
and Isaac get to know one another, will Alberta’s father allow
her to have a relationship with the handsome Frenchman?
Does the future, in a time when things are
uncertain, look bright for Isaac and his ladylove?
Sarah
Storme captures her audience with the charming Isaac Broussard and the
tough,
yet sweet, Alberta Strickler in Just Kiss Me.
With a delightful
and vastly different cast
of characters, this historical tale transports readers back to the
difficult
time of 1918 and with the authors precise descriptions and
story-telling
talent, it is as if we are standing amidst the dusty air and excitement
of Marshall’s
Bayou. Ms. Storme perfectly depicts the
trying times
of decades ago, and also a father’s restriction on his daughters. In what was a man’s world back then, we have
Alberta who is
an
independent woman, yet she is caught by her father’s rules and
society’s
perceptions of what should be. In this one sitting read, Alberta catches
a reader’s heart and we are
rooting for her to explore life and find her own way. Isaac was a
sweetheart
who also captured this reader’s heart. He is an amazing and strong male
who
when he loves, he loves 100%.
Just Kiss Me is a historical romance
that tells
the tale of the past ways splendidly. Kudos to Ms. Storme for writing a
great
romance. This is a must for any
historical and/or romance reader. I am
glad to see that Ms. Storme will continue with
Alberta’s family, with her sister
Mae’s
story, which will be out in January 2005 in Bayou
Rhapsody.
