“Know what’s weird? Day by day nothing seems to change, but pretty soon…everything’s different.” Calvin of Calvin and Hobbes.
That is my favorite quote in this slim paperback book ripe with anecdotes, quotes, heartwarming, and giggle silly stories, but it’s not the only quote I enjoy. How’s this one? “Beautiful young people are accidents of nature but beautiful old people are works of art.” Eleanor Roosevelt.
Despite the title, this is not a cook book nor, in my humble opinion, will any of the ideas make you profitable. Oh, I take that back. You’ll get a big boost in the fund supplying laughter to your spirit and you know what they say – a chuckle a day keeps the cooties (doctors/pills/pains/etc) away. .
Ms. Bolton writes with enough funny to make you smile and enough truth to have a little something to chew on when you’re done. There are 53 chapters with titles like: High Fiving Thighs, Ten Things you Don’t Realize Until Middle Age, For He was A Jolly Good Fellow and 10 Things to do the Day After You Retire, there’s a little something for everyone. Lord knows the older we get the more we need reminders that life is still fun, or it can be, if we could just remember how!
Unlike Ms. Bolton’s previous book, Didn’t My Skin Used to Fit? This made me laugh out loud more than once, COOKING WITH HOT FLASHES, although funny, struck home in more than one place and I got a little melancholy. Maybe it’s the loss of my mom, or the fact that my son is now married, or that my daughter and her family will be moving to California – you know life events shifted my focus about life and now things I once never gave a second thought to, touch my heart? Does that make sense?
I already gave the previous book to my sister and I must follow with a gift of COOKING WITH HOT FLASHES. After all there’s nothing wrong with laughter followed by a few tears. When you pick up your copy, make sure to read Chapters 10, 40 and 41, they are my favorites.
If you are menopausal, (including pre or post), married to a menopausal woman, have a mom that’s menopausal, or know someone who enjoys wholesome jokes and tales…you must get them this book.
I highly recommend COOKING WITH HOT FLASHES. You’ll find it in perfect taste for you or someone else, you can't go wrong!
