BEYOND GROUNDHOGS AND GOBBLERS.PUTTING MEANING BACK INTO YOUR HOLIDAY CELEBRATIONS by Cyndy Salzmann

Celebrate this day as a lasting ordinance for the generations to come. Exodus 12:17

Ms. Salzmann does it again! I think this is the most helpful resource yet In fact, I saw myself in so many of her ‘parties,’ it was uncanny. Ms. Salzmann holds nothing back in giving every family, the who, what, where and whys of celebrating.

In today’s zippy society where families find it difficult to even carve a sit-down-eat time in their day, parties have become rote, and left to the talents of fast food restaurants or the impersonal singing of Happy Birthday at a dinner out. Wouldn’t it be great to celebrate around the table with family? Lose the commercialism and make special occasions, warm memories

Ever wonder why we celebrate April Fools day? For more than just playing jokes. You can find the reason on page 40. Included in the description are pertinent scriptures; Table Talk – covering points/ice breakers about April Fools Day, and finally a yummy recipe – in this case, Berry Fool.

All Holidays are laid out like this: Description, scriptures, Table Talk with ice breakers to start the family chatting, next comes age appropriates celebration ideas, and the recipes. I learned so much about occasions, but even better are the scriptures and ideas to help us celebrate Holidays in a Holy way!

All 12 months are covered in this book. Some months have more than holiday and all have detailed party plans just waiting to be used! I love October’s plans. Our family has never celebrated Halloween instead opting for Harvest parties. In Beyond Groundhogs and Gobblers we have right on scriptures, table talk points and great sounding recipes – I’m trying them on my grandsons this year.

Every book I’ve read of Ms. Salzmann’s has proved to be helpful and inspiring. If you read my reviews I know I must sound like a broken record. I honestly feel her books should be in every home. They offer hope and assistance to even the most challenged parent. I know this book also will find its way to my daughter and daughter-in-law. Beyond Groundhogs and Gobblers deserves to be in every home. When I described the book to my husband he commented he could have used it when he preached. Being as October is Pastor Appreciation month why not slip your pastor or his wife a copy?

I highly recommend this book and believe utilizing the ideas will have the family raving over your fresh take on the holidays. When did mom/dad become such fun party people?
