Carmen is
thrilled when her Uncle wills her The Lucky Hart, and she vows to open
it back
up and run the place. She wants it to be a classy, elegant place that
gentlemen
frequent, to see sexy women dance, fully clothed. However, a kink in
her
well-laid plans is the sexy fire chief, Brent. They have known each
other since
they were children; having always been like oil and water around each
other,
they just don’t mix. She doesn’t have a choice though, he has to
inspect her
business, or he will have to shut her down. It doesn’t help matters,
that every
time he attempts to do his job, he is sidetracked by Carmen. Brent
wants
Carmen, badly, but he refuses to let himself have her. He feels like
they would
just be playing with fire if they were to get involved, and both would
get
burned. Yet, the more that they are near each other, the better getting
burned
looks, and the harder it is to fight the inferno that rages inside both
of
them.
FIGHTING
FIRE is a blazing story of two people who love to hate each other, and
hate to
want each other. Still, they are helpless to deny that they light each
other’s
fire as no other person could. Carmen is a character who is so true to
life,
that at times you feel like she is real. She has suffered in a bad
relationship, and is fighting her way back to being whole again. Like
all
women, she has little flaws that bug her, yet she can’t change them,
because
they seem to be an innate part of her. Things such as; standing with
her hands
on her hips or chewing on her hair. They make her a loveable, quirky
character.
Brent, as well, is also likeable in his flaws. He is scared to get
involved
because of a scarred childhood, a father who nearly ruins his views of
love and
marriage. The two of them need each other to right their inner wrongs
and help
them heal. I really appreciated the way that Ms. Brooks wrote a story
that
incorporated past hurts, love, romance, healing, and steamy sex scenes
into one
short, quick read.
