THE DISCOVERY by Lynn Warren

Special Agent Lynsee Frost had always wanted to visit New Orleans, but not on a murder case. To make matters worse, she’s on assignment with her boss, Jack Navarre, the man she’d been in love with for the past three years. They had one night of passion that Lynsee has been clinging to for three years; the one night Jack said was a mistake.

Jack Navarre was the consummate by the book agent. He followed the rules on a case and off as well. Because of that, he’d perfected hiding his feelings for Lynsee, but lately, his iron will had been crumbling piece by piece every time she was around him. Jack’s problems only become more compounded when more bodies start turning up at the Scarlet Oak Manor, the murder site, and Lynsee starts seeing ghosts.

Haunted mansions, an old grave, and a curse all accost Lynsee and Jack as they investigate the murders of the missing women. For some reason, Lynsee and Jack have awakened the evil ghost of Lyle Forrester, a previous owner of Scarlet Oak and he will stop at nothing to find the lost Midnight Star, a fist size sapphire that has cursed him and his house for years. Lynsee and Jack’s only hope for survival is to finally acknowledge their love for each other, no matter what it means to their careers. But when Lyle threatens Lynsee’s life, will it be too late for confessions of love?

Lynn Warren has done an exceptional job of leading off this exciting series with THE DISCOVERY. Murder, intrigue, ghosts, and curses are all rolled into one book making this a fantastic gripping suspense. The heat between Lynsee and Jack was palpable. I think that’s one of Lynn’s specialties, making the sizzle between characters on the written page jump out and bite you, but in a good way. I also liked that the secondary characters had some depth and impact on the story as well. Ms. Warren, while bringing some closure to Jack and Lynsee’s story, still leaves the reader with just enough threads undone that you’ll be impatiently waiting to discover what the next installment unravels.
