Just in time for the cold chilly part of the year, where a couple hours with a good book, a crackling fire and warm slippers seems like heaven, Ms. Gutteridge writes for us a delightfully pleasing mystery.
BOO WHO takes up where the previous book BOO left off. (I didn’t’ read BOO, but falling in love with the characters of BOO WHO was no problem.)
Wolfe ‘Boo’ Boone, former horror writer turned used car salesman (sort of) is all set to marry his fiancé, the next Martha Stewart, Ainsley Parker. But, suddenly she’s on the way to making dreams come true, via Boone’s x-agent. Boone is afraid Ainsley’s and Boone’s wedding plans will be put on the back burner while she is pressed to enter contests and plan someone else’s wedding to give flight to the fledgling Martha Stewart career. Soon, Ainsley is wondering what on earth she’s gotten into, is this her dream or a nightmare? Boone wonders if there will be a wedding for them and doesn’t like the changes in his beloved.
In the meantime, there’s some strange stuff happening in Skary. A new therapist, calls himself doctor, is in town and it seems everyone, seeks his advice. A newly neutered cat brings his owner to the brink of depression, and an owl sends someone on a chase. Add to all this bride who isn’t too practical, unexplained screams, and spooky looking ‘creatures’, or ‘beings’ (depends on your outlook) who appear in town and disappear into the woods and you have the cozy story of BOO WHO.
What a neat book. An unique idea given life through seamless, strong writing brings realism to this charming town, Skary, but especially good is the surprise end. You may not be scared when you read this book, but you will be enthralled and pleased with the turns and twists Ms. Gutteridge knits in
