| Analiese Tremaine comes to the island
of Laconos looking for her brother. She knows he is involved in some kind of covert
operations but he has been missing for two weeks now and she is very worried. Hacking into
her brothers computer, she also knows that he had some contact with boat owner,
Jones, so she tries to hire him to take her to Laconos. Jones already has a charter so refuses her more than generous offer.
Obviously he does not realize Anas determination and before long they are on
their way to Laconos. Although she is attracted to the surly boat captain, she figures he
is the type of fellow that likes his women available, inventive and gone in the
morning. He does make her bristle as she tries to glean information from him without
revealing her relationship to her brother.
Laconos is a dangerous island because of the recent
government upheaval. When Ana hears that the police are looking for a foreigner that has
been reportedly wounded, she makes discrete inquiries throughout the town. She stumbles
upon a drug deal and is pursued by government officials; the adventure begins, as she and
Jones must cross the jungle to get to his boat and safety.
Jones is an alpha man and Ana looks like trouble to
him. Ana is not intimidated by his strength -- she has had to stay on her toes all her
life because of her brothers so she can more than hold her own. Jones has had enough
trouble in his life so he tries to keep his distance. Ana and Jones throw off sparks from
each other, both determined to not get involved with the other. Some of the situations and
dialog are laughable but at the same time, danger is lurking as they find terror and
adventure on the island. The waterfall scene is hot and the pacing very good. ALIAS SMITH
AND JONES is an excellent read and my first by this talented author. I will be looking
forward to the next in her Tremaine Tradition series.>
