AN ACCIDENTAL GODDESS by Megan Sybil Baker

Almost 350 years ago, Captain Gillaine Davré and her spaceship were destroyed in a battle with the Fav'lhir.  It was an historical battle, and Gillaine was soon made into a deity by her people for her sacrifice.

Except Gillie didn't die -- during the battle, she unintentionally time traveled into the future to a deep space station that was, unknown to everyone, about to be engaged in a fierce battle.

Forced to stay on the space station for an extended period while her ship is repaired, Gillie starts to suspect some of the people on the space station aren't who they claim to be.  Odd occurrences, strange behaviors and some things only a Raheiran -- especially the  Kiasidira -- and her sentient crystal ship would notice.  And Gillie does notice, but must figure out how to inform and protect the people on the space station, especially Admiral Rynan 'Mack' Makarian, without letting anyone know who she really is.

Their only hope of survival is Gillie, although they couldn't even begin to understand the ramifications of that truth.  If she lets them find out who she really is their belief system will fall apart.  And if Mack finds out that the woman he's fallen in love with is actually The Kiasidira, the God he's worshipped his entire life, will he ever want to hold her as his lover again?

After reading many Megan Sybil Baker/Linnea Sinclair books I decided to try to figure out what it is she does that makes me enjoy her writing style so much.   Here's what I came up with.

Her characters are intelligent, no-nonsense and have a depth that gives me an instant mental picture.  I don't have to read very far into the book to have a strong sense of the people and by the time I've read the first few pages, I can be assured that I'm going to be really interested in them.

She always surprises me.  I always find myself thinking 'how on earth did she come up with that?'  This authors ideas are far fetched, as are most science fiction writers ideas, but that's alright, because how she gets us to the point of believing what's she's written is a wonderful journey.  She doesn't tell us, she shows us and again, the mental movie playing in my head is such a treat.

Her writing style is consistent but her stories are diverse.  I know I'll bond with her words, but I won't have a clue what to expect from her story.   It's like going on an adventure -- you know where you're starting and finishing but don't know what's going to happen along the way.

I'm a trekkie.  I love adventures in outer space because we really don't know anything about it.  Strange worlds, unknown people and civilizations all at different stages of their history is a fascinating concept.  Thanks to Gene Rodenberry we all have a strong image in our heads of what our civilizations version of future space travel might be, so when a gifted writer takes what is a generally accepted idea of space travel and puts her own imagination into the scenario the result can be a really good book.  With this author, it is a really good book.

Linnea Sinclair, whether writing as herself or Megan Sybil Baker is a guarantee of amazing characters, racing story-lines and a good time.   She draws you into her stories with ease, keeps you with her with twists, turns and great secondary characters and holds you until the exciting conclusion.  This is one author who definitely can't write fast enough for me!
