Widow Bree Nichols and Samson,
her search and rescue dog, are determined to recover the bodies of her husband, Rob, and
young son, Davy, from a downed plane. Problem is no one really knows where the plane went
down, although they estimate it close by. Just before Rob flew Davy home, Bree received a
phone call from a woman indicating she and Rob were having an affair. Bree confronted Rob
with the information, which he vehemently denied. It would prove to be the last
conversation they have. Bree has mothers intuition her son is not dead. Everyone
else calls it denial. Then clues begin to pop-up, and Bree is more determined than ever to
search her home area - Michigans Upper Peninsula for evidence.
In the meantime, a sub-story has crooked dealings of a gold mine sale with a much-trusted
character in the book. And, we meet a reclusive woman, living in the woods, with a young
boy, Timmy. Children close to Bree call the woman The Witch. Nobody believes the children
until a crucial object is uncovered, and the action kicks into high gear.
We also meet those who help Bree through the tough times. The possibility of new romance
for Bree also sparks in this first book. But, mostly the reader cheers for Bree and wants
her to either accept the loss of her family and grieve, or to have a miracle happen and
have them be found - alive.
To say much more would give away too much of the books excellent twisty--turning
plot. The first in a series of three books in The Rock Harbor Series, Without A Trace has
all the elements for a great read. Mystery, intrigue, romance and a little humor all work
to make Missing Without A Trace a must read. With chilly autumn weather soon making its
way, this book will make an excellent curl-up-by-the-fire-companion.
Colleen Coble is a skillful storyteller. Her work has earned top spots on the CBA
bestseller lists, and its no wonder why. If you want a book that has great
characters or you like books with a strong plot, Missing Without A Trace will please
because it has it all.
