Cidra Faulkner is the only one of her
family still alive. The dHont soldiers
killed the rest of them. Cidras father
was in charge of security on her home planet of Avion.
He had arranged for the transport of a vaccine for the plague responsible
for killing millions. The vaccine never made
it to its destination. Cidra spent the
last ten years with Syrus. Syrus taught her
the Kin sha ways and she is fully proficient in their use.
Now, Syrus is dead. Barrios has a box for Cidra, which Syrus asked him
to give her after his death. They also have
an uninvited guest. Grey Stone has shown up. Hes a treasure hunter now, but was trained
by Syrus as well. Grey informs them that they
will be coming with him. Syrus has told Grey
to guard Cidra with his life.
Grey doesnt trust easily. His father beat his mother to death and tried the
same with him. He does his best to fight the
attraction he feels for Cidra, knowing that its a losing battle. The box contains information leading them to
believe that the shipment did indeed leave Avion and was attacked. Of course, to prove that her father wasnt a
traitor, Cidra immediately wants to start the chase.
Grey agrees, but only under his terms.
Barrios and Cidra go with Grey and end
up at his home on Vaasa. They decide on a
plan of action as they try and evade multiple enemies.
She ends up meeting one of Greys friends, Rourke. Rourke is a big bluff man that comes in handy on
more than one occasion.
I read and loved Unearthed by C.J. Barry and Unchained is every as bit as fantastic as the first
one. Not only is this in the best
Indiana Jones tradition, the hero is even a treasure hunter. The sparks fly between the lead characters, with
a secondary romance going as well between Barrios and Rosa, Greys housekeeper. The planets
are all very different, from the wild beauty of Vaasa, to the quiet civility of Avion. The characters are all bigger than life and
wonderfully portrayed. I recommend C.J. Barry
to all futuristic lovers everywhere.
