When Sir Phillip
Crane loses his wife, a distant cousin of hers, Eloise Bridgerton, sends him a note,
expressing her condolences. For some reason
that even he could not explain, he felt compelled to reply to her note, and thus starts
his long distance friendship with Miss Bridgerton, a friendship that eventually turns into
more than that.
Miss Bridgerton can
be considered a spinster at twenty-eight. She
has reached that age unmarried, but not for lack of suitors. When she receives the news that her best friend is
getting married, she starts thinking about her prospects.
Her long-distance friendship with Sir Phillip has turned into a courtship,
now that he has expressed his desire of meeting her and mayhap, if they are suited for
each other, a marriage could be in the works. So,
she decides to pay Sir Phillip a little visit to see how well suited they are for each
other
of course, she never expected the sort of complications that she soon faces.
To
Sir Phillip, With Love is the first Julia Quinn book I have read. After reading one of her short stories in an
anthology titled Scottish Brides I wanted to sample more of her writing
I was not disappointed. Julia Quinn has a
beautiful style and certainly the comparisons to Jane Austen are well deserved. This books witty dialogue, delightful
humour, and charming plot keep the reader glued to the story. The characters are nicely developed and extremely
attractive, matching what is an engaging story. I
was thrilled when I found out that this particular book is the fifth in a series titled
The Bridgertons, so this means that I have quite a bit to catch up on
which is
something that I certainly look forward to. Even
though this book is the fifth in a series, you certainly do not need to read the previous
installments to be able to enjoy this one. This
is a book that will certainly appeal to lovers of romance, irrespective of genre. If you have never tried a historical romance
before, this book could be a good start. To
Sir Phillip, With Love is certainly a keeper. Now, if youll excuse me, I need to start
catching up on my reading. ;-)
