Female Pinkerton
Agents Nab Their Men in Four Interwoven Novellas
In a fun and
delightful read these four authors literally weave a tale together
giving us in essence one book about female Pinkerton Detective Agents.
Tangled Threads –
Carol Cox
Ruth Hunnicut and
co-worker are headed to Windmere Falls, Colorado to help find serial
train robbers. On the train, Ruth is robbed and her co-worker goes
missing, she can’t wait to get to town, set up her ‘front’ dressmaker’s
shop and nap the thieves. Ruth comes into contact with many people in
her shop. It’s fun to see her put pieces of the puzzle together and soon
she has a list of suspects. Will one of her customers be the robber?
And is there one who will win her heart?
Rescuing Sydney –
Lisa Harris
Sydney de Claremont
decided to be a Pinkerton operative after her brother, Andre was killed
during a train robbery. On her way to Windemere Falls, Colorado, with
co-worker Ruth Hunnicut, Sydney falls off the train. But, there to help
her get to town is Andre’s childhood friend, John Langston. Sydney is a
little miffed, a little embarrassed, and a whole lot curious about John.
They walk together to Windemere, and besides a few encounters along the
way, the journey ends with a little time in jail. Will Sydney be able to
find the robbers? Does John hold the key to unlocking the mystery?
Skirted Clues –
DiAnn Mills
Spunky Moment
Alexander is sick of being a secretary. She’s a Pinkerton agent and
wants to do some detecting! When the opportunity comes to help with the
train robbery case, Moment jumps at the chance. One thing Moment perhaps
didn’t count on was how often she’d have to be on a horse – because
Moment’s afraid of horses. And, when she meets handsome Brady Miller she
suspects he’s a prime candidate as one of the wanted. However, Brady
warms her heart and Moment is pulled between heart and head. Which will
win?
Victorious –
Kathleen Y’Barbo
Lady Victoria
Barrett-Ames has come to America from England. While the other Pinkerton
Agents have concluded the case is over, Victoria is not convinced and
keeps following leads to folks she believes is the real mastermind
behind the train robberies, and it might be her boss – head Pinkerton
Agent Gus Drummond. Gus has ideas of his own about Victoria. Is she
involved in the robberies - more than solving the case requires? Will
these two be able to sort it out and find what really lies at the heart
of the matter?
I enjoyed each story
in the book, but my favorite was Skirted Clues, whose heroine Moment is
spunky, hardy and smart. Each story has its own charm, and each author
skillfully fleshes out their story so it fits in exactly with the
others. I also enjoyed the old west settings, in a time where romance
and lawlessness rode side by side. Without God’s hand on individual
lives the west might have never been won.
I think this book
will win the hearts of anyone who likes love, history, tough smart
women, and great writing. I give it the Reviewers Award – my first for
an anthology.
