Nine year old Molly Hart is kidnapped. Her parents are murdered and
Molly Is presumed dead when a young girl’s brutally attacked body is
found. Ten years later Molly makes her way from the Kwahadi Comanche’s
who has held her captive all this time, and heads for home, arriving at
a dusty un-kept house, with her grave in the yard.
Texas Ranger Matt Ryan was one of the first on the trail of the
Comanche’s after he found the slaughtered family. Her death haunts him
and when he is finally free from a devastating imprisonment, he heads
back to the Hart ranch, where he meets the now grown Molly Hart. He has
always felt like he should have stayed with the Hart’s that night so
many years earlier, everyone would still be alive.
THE WREN brings two wounded folks, one a Texas Ranger the other a
wounded ex-captive, and weaves their souls together. Ms. McCaffrey is a
good storyteller, but the Wren held few surprises for me. While the
characters are real and dialogue is fresh, the plot is too familiar. I
am a huge fan of Westerns and understand there are only so many story
lines and characters, but a few unexpected surprises are always nice.
It’s obvious a good deal of research has gone into the storyline,
and the history buff in me relished this aspect.
