Jo Green, twenty-three years old and in need
of some excitement in her life, sets off for the big city of London. Jo dumps her
boyfriend and prepares to leave town after answering an ad in the newspaper for a Nanny. Knowing luxurious comforts await her, Jo is anxious to get to her new
home and job. But when Jo meets her new employers, the
Fitzgeralds and their whole pack of children, she wonders what she has gotten into. The Fitzgeralds marriage is one from hell and Jo feels like she
is spinning out of control. She enjoys the younger children, but
finds herself wondering over Josh who is twenty-five and who she shares a room with, but
she cant seem to really figure him out. Jo finds herself
drawn to Josh but the hours she spends listening to the Fitzgeralds battles and
watching over the kids, life isnt all that much fun at the end of the day.
Did
Jo leave a perfectly good life behind to move to London?
Fun
and charming is Melissa Nathans, The Nanny. The
ups and downs of Joes life in London had me laughing so hard at times, my sides
hurt. Jo was a delightful character who comes to mean a lot to
the reader by the end of the story. I found the vast array of
characters and the Fitzgeralds themselves to be overdone and overshadowing the
story. But that said, they were an integral part of the story,
but didnt quite capture me. There were a few surprises in The Nanny that kept things interesting and entertaining. A
nicely done chick lit tale by Melissa Nathan, a tale that one can read on an evening when
they want to get away from it all.
