| Eden Winstowes husband has just
died, but that is the least of her worries. Though she had tried to mend their failing
relationship before he died, they had never had a good rapport in their marriage. Her late
husband had been a spendthrift - a cold and heartless one at that - and with his last
breath, he had imparted to her a terrible secret, a secret of guilt and lies and betrayal. Her marriage to Spencer had not been a love match, but one of
convenience. A façade to hide another terrible secret in Edens own past. And now,
after his death, she is finally free of the prison that façade had been. However, her
finances are in ruin, and she has no other choice but to retreat from the city that she so
loves to the only other available haven left to her. Hartsmere - a place that Eden had
sworn never to revisit, a place that represents shame and fear, a place that has haunted
Eden as in a waking nightmare for five long years. Though Hartsmere holds horrible
memories for her, not to mention the fact that she detests country living, Eden takes her
aunt with her and flees to the estate.
And, upon her return to Hartsmere, she awakens a
dangerous enemy. Her presence arouses a merciless Fane lord from his five-year
slumber. And with him, she awakens his rage and his taste for revenge.
The Fane Lord, known to the native people as the
powerful Hern, assumes the guise of Hartley Shaw and seeks out a position at Hartsmere so
that he may be near Eden. And there, he plots his revenge.
From their first meeting, Eden is drawn to Hartley
for some unfathomable reason. He is a servant, and beneath her notice, but his magnetism
seems irresistible. Eden has no idea that Hartley hides a secret, too, one linked to her
nightmares.
Susan Krinard has woven together a delightful
adventure in The Forest Lord. Her skillful imagery and masterful storytelling envelop the
reader in a rich tapestry of magic and suspense.
The Forest Lord will draw you into an enchanted
world so real that youll be able to feel the hot breath of the angry Stag upon your
neck, scent the verdant perfume of Herns great forest, and touch the shimmering
dream of a love so deep is reaches past the borders of even the great Fane Kingdom.
Ms. Krinards characters are superbly written,
her storyline and plot flow flawlessly from the page, leaving readers wanting more. I
highly recommend The Forest Lord as a must read this year! You wont be able to put
it down!
