Drummond men are
notorious rakes, from one generation to the next. George Alexander Essex
Drummond, future Duke of Wainridge, has worked long and hard to not be
like any of the men in his family. The last thing Alexander wants is to
be like any of them. Taking a job with the Customs Board, chasing
smugglers, Alexander did his best to prove himself. He proved too good
at his job, however, and made some enemies. After all, smugglers stood
to make a lot of money, and Alexander stood in their way.
When Mary Brown
Callahan took a job as a nursemaid to his daughter, she was surprised
that Devil Marquis of Warrick (Alexander) was nothing like she imagined.
Mary is not a nurse, just there as part of a scheme so her father can
gain revenge on Alexander. Will Mary end up hurting Alex, or will the
strong attraction she feels for him cause her to change her mind?
In the meantime,
Alex is tempted. He does not know who Mary is, of course, but he’s
tempted by her beauty and her wit. Both Alex and Mary fight an
incredible attraction to each other.
TEMPTED is a
fantastic book! For one thing, Mary’s sarcastic wit is utterly
refreshing. Mary has a past that is kept secret from Alex. Mary’s
upbringing and her choice of careers before working for Alex has given
her a world of education. One of the things she has learned is to use
colorful speech. This raises the level of humor in this book quite
nicely. Mary’s association with Alex brings about many changes in him –
delightful changes that dim the line of distinction between the two
classes.
Whether you are
enjoying Alex and Mary’s wonderful love story, the secondary characters
– Gabby, Alex’s daughter; Abu, Mary’s pet; Alex’s cousin and father, or
the tender emotions that this story invoked, TEMPTED is an excellent
read. This is the first book I’ve read by Ms. Britton, but it certainly
won’t be the last.
