Set in modern day
Wisconsin, SUMMERS END is the third and final book in her Northern Intrigue romantic suspense series.
Dr. Kirsi Royston
has promised to repay the town of Steadfast, Wisconsin, for their generosity in paying her
way through medical school by working in the Emergency Room for the next six years,
relieving an elderly doctor who is ready to retire. But situations have changed, and Kirsi
is no longer able to fulfill her obligations. She needs to take care of her ailing mother
and grandparents. Kirsi promises to find a doctor to replace her before she leaves.
Dr. Doug Erickson
is happy when Kirsi arrives but when she announces publicly her plans to leave, he is
crushed. His grandfather has hunted for years for someone to fill his position with little
success. Can Kirsi succeed in finding a new doctor when Dougs grandfather has
failed?
Someone has started
manufacturing methamphetamine in the area and Kirsi witnessed them buying the ingredients.
Now people are being murdered. Who is doing this and why? Steadfast, Wisconsin, has always
been relatively crime free, but with Kirsis arrival, it seems like they have entered
the twilight zone.
SUMMERS END
is another enchanting story by Lyn Cote. Even though it was last in the series, it easily
stands alone. I really felt for Doug as he struggles to manage alone in the hospital to
relieve his grandfather and now Kirsi isnt going to work out. But I also understood
Kirsi as I had to take care of my mother and that is much more important than any other
obligations that Kirsi may have.
I read this in the
car as I went on a long trip and found I couldnt put the book down. SUMMERS
END is sure to grab your attention on page one, and keep it until the end. If you like
romantic suspense, SUMMERS END is the book to pick up. Available November 2003,
$9.99, 265 pages.
