Pretty traveling actress Faith Butler is beside
herself in desperation. Her five-year-old daughter, Becca is gravelly ill with rheumatic
fever. Up until now, Faith along with the two children, Becca and Alex, have been able to
keep up with the troupe's performances. Now, in this dying town, Dead Horse, Montana, she
must help her daughter live. Dr. Telford, Dead Horses physician, advises Faith to
stay. Putting sick little Becca in a wagon to travel would all but guarantee the
childs demise. Faith vows to do whatever it takes Becca to get well. She bids
good-bye to the acting troupe, and prays the Lord will give her direction.
Drake Rutledge, owner of Jagged J Ranch lives like a recluse. He runs the ranch from
behind locked doors. The house he lives in is void of prettiness and any comforts that
would welcome guests. Drake has been hurt in more ways than the physical scars he bears.
His heart and spirit are bitter. His faith is quiet and dulled. But, today, he cant
resist the pleas of the pretty woman before him.
Seems town doc, Dr. Telford thinks Jagged J needs a housekeeper and cook, and this woman
is perfect for the job. Drake attempts to refuse her, but she insists. He relents, but
silently promises the stay will not be long. When she begins making changes and the house
once again feels like a family home, his anger is fierce. How dare this woman take
advantage of his generosity? How dare she stir long suppressed feelings?
Circumstance and providence test Faiths belief in God. But, even in the midst of
trouble, she sees the hurt in Drake Rutledge, her new boss. Her heart goes out to him, and
she wonders if maybe the Lord had something else in mind besides housekeeper and cook?
Will she be able to break through Drakes self-imposed quarantine?
SPEAK TO ME OF LOVE is a delightful story of love and forgiveness. While the characters
quickly draw the reader in, the compelling plot keeps us reading. The setting is real,
Robin Lee Hatcher has us seeing, smelling and tasting the old West town, Dead Horse.
Plenty of plot turns and a surprising ending will certainly satisfy. I highly recommend,
SPEAK TO ME OF LOVE.
