SOME GIRLS DO is
Leeann Banks debut single title. When you read the madcap adventure of
Katie Collins and Michael Wingate, I’m sure you’ll experience a bevy of
emotions, the last being a smile on your face.
Katie Collins is
working hard in Philadelphia. She’s a personal assistant to a man best
described as a prick. Katie needs this job, desperately. Another thing
about Katie – she’s transformed herself into a drab, sexless woman. The
“why” is important to know as we watch Katie’s growth throughout the
story. Katie’s boss, Ivan, is about to take an extended honeymoon with
his sixth wife, and has left Katie with an assignment, and the promise
of a huge bonus. Katie has no choice but to accept the assignment, as it
means her job, and the bonus can help her with something critically
important to her.
Katie’s assignment
is to play matchmaker and to find a husband for Ivan’s daughter,
Wilhemina. In the meantime, Ivan’s security expert, Michael Wingate, has
been assigned as Wilhemina’s bodyguard. This puts Katie and Michael
together. Michael wants to know Katie’s secrets, and Katie wants to know
why Michael seems so impersonal. When Wilhemina disappears, Katie and
Michael have no choice but to go search for her. What they find is more
than either ever expected.
SOME GIRLS DO was a
fantastic book, a book that will leave you feeling fulfilled, and with a
deep sense of happiness. While I enjoyed the adventure Michael and Katie
were on when they were looking for Wilhemina, I enjoyed their personal
interaction much more. Katie’s past kept slipping out, and that made me
very sympathetic towards her. I especially enjoyed her growth in this
engaging book. Michael was a contrary – a man working too hard to prove
himself, and almost missing out on the best thing that ever happened to
him. Books that are character-driven tend to be my favorite, as the
characters experience many changes in the quest that will finally bring
them together. Leanne Banks does a superb job with Katie, Michael and
Wilhemina.
Readers especially
love the anecdotes that Katie’s mother, Sunny, shared at the beginning
of each chapter, and at other times, speaking in Katie’s mind. I am sure
a lot of us who’ve lose a dear loved one can relate. Sunny may’ve not
been the best example of a mother, but she most certainly loved her
children. One quote I really enjoyed: “Love makes us do amazing,
wonderful things…and really stupid things too.” Each chapter is
prefaced by these quotes, which are called “Sunny Collin’s Wisdom.”
The conclusion of
SOME GIRLS DO was especially touching. From Katie getting together with
her siblings, to Wilhemina marrying the man of her choice, and to
Katie and Michael finding their own happiness, was all done
exceptionally well. I’m on my way right now to read Ms. Banks’ next
book, WHEN SHE’S BAD.
