Hesper is an Alula girl who soars
through the skies but has a fear for danger and the unknown. Her best friend is Tristan, a Boytaur who is a
hoofed boy with four legs and can fly. A
friendship between an Alula and a Boytaur or Mantaur, as they are called when they are
grown, has always been forbidden on the plane in which they live. But that doesnt stop Hesper and Tristan from
becoming friends or from sneaking around late at night to fly together.
When Hesper
and Tristan are caught by another Alula, Hesper is sent by the Alula council to a human
plane with no memory of her time as an Alula. Hespers
memories on the human plane are that of a normal girl who grew up with a mother and a
father and is now attending high school. But
when Hesper meets the new boy in school, Tristan and finds him familiar she doesnt
understand how it could be possible because she has never seen him before. Tristan has learned how to travel between the
planes without losing his memory and begs Hesper to go back with him and make things right
between the planes, as both are in trouble. Hesper
fights her fears and travels back with Tristan where all her memories return and she is
giddy and excited to have her wings and be able to fly.
Tristan helps Hesper learn to face her fears and together they work to find
a solution to the problems between the planes, even facing dangerous situations, all the
while forming an even tighter bond than ever before.
I found
this story intriguing, heart-warming and very moving.
This fantasy tale strikes the reader straight in the heart with a
womans struggle to overcome her fears and believe in herself, love, friendship and
faith. Hesper is a spirited young woman who
takes life very seriously, likes to think things through before acting and fears change in
her life, especially when danger is involved. Tristan
is every young person's wish in life that they will have that one person in their lives
that will be their best friend, confidant, buddy and ally.
Ms. Miller enchants readers with this sweet, romantic and confidence
building story that young adults will identify with and enjoy. Hesper finding herself, working through her fears
with strength and determination will inspire young adults to not give up when things
become difficult and shows them how to believe in themselves. Watching Tristan handle others that ridicule him
for being different than them is heart-wrenching yet also very inspiring.
Deanna
Miller is a fantastic author who speaks straight from the heart and her words touch
readers spiritually and emotionally. I am
honored to have read this great inspiration by Ms. Miller and am pleased to add this to my
library of great reads. For children ages 10
to 18, young adults will find encouragement and support in this tale and parents will
enjoy reading it with them.
