This 250 page book is divided into four sections and followed by a heart-warming, encouraging afterward. The sections are: Inspiration, Struggles, Virtues and Encouragement. It is difficult to pick a favorite because each time I read the devotions a new one would be relevant for that particular time in my life. But, if forced to choose, I Believe I can Fly and The Right Side of Forty: Forever Young, would be among my top picks.
The author, Jacqueline Jakes, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. She survived an 8 hour surgery and arduous recovery only by the grace of God and her strong faith-walk with Him. In Sister Wit Ms. Jakes gives today’s faith-walking women devotions that teach, console reach, comfort and make us smile. She is the sister of Bishop T.D. Jakes and comes across with the same powerful sense of a strong intimate relationship with the Lord that Bishop Jakes does when he speaks.
I’ve been a believer for twenty years and encouraged by many devotionals, but Ms. Jake’s life experience and way with words is refreshingly unique. I liked it that the devotions are real and pertinent and not sticky sweet and punishing as some I’ve read. She takes real life circumstance and challenges us to work them into triumphant masterpieces.
Sister Wit will be a great gift for the special women in your life. Pick it up for Mother’s day, a birthday, or just as an I need a pick me up gift, day. Women in the ministry and those whose husband’s are in the ministry will especially appreciate her keen insight.
