Twins,
Faith and Honesty, had been abducted when they were four years old. Now, sixteen years later, Honesty is hoping to
find her long lost sister. She has been
living in America and is deliriously happy in her recent marriage; she is thrilled because
her new husband has agreed to hunt for Faith.
Faith is living in the
slums of London with a group of young pickpockets and has been well trained in her craft,
answering to the cruel Jack Swift. Her only
real friend is the young boy, Scatter, who is also part of the group. Jack sends her out in the rain and tells her to
not return until she brings back something of value.
She and Scatter work together to fleece a gentleman coming out of a tavern and as
Faith picks his pocket, she gives the purse to Scatter. They
both try to get away but Troyce, Baron of Westborough, apprehends Faith. Instead of taking her to jail, he takes her to his
home to be trained as a servant. He is
surprised to find a beautiful woman immerge from the filth and degradation of living in
the slums.
Troyce has recently
come into the title of Baron of Westborough. He
has also inherited an ancestral home, a London house and a mound of debt. Hoping to refurbish a huge ship so that he can
sell it to make some ready money, he is unable to find backers for his venture. His sharp-tongued sister, Devon, is living with
him and takes an instant dislike to Faith. Troyce
finds Faith invitingly forthright and is very attracted to the young minx.
As Honesty dreams of
finding her sister and her husband is following clues to locate her, Faith is trying to
settle into learning to be a maid but finds it increasingly difficult to not succumb to
the attractions of her employer.
Faith is an
interesting character and wants to change her life for the better. She doesnt hesitate to confront her employer
but does shy away from Devon who obviously has a past that has made her angry at life. Since her story is unfinished, could Devons
story possibly be the next book by this talented author?
Troyce is attracted to the lovely Faith and protects her from his sisters
wrath but because of his penniless situation, knows he must find a wealthy woman even
though he finds the solution unappealing. He
is a likeable hero who cares for and protects the people that he cares about.
A SCANDALOUS LADY is
well written, moves along at a good pace and is an interesting story line. What more could a reader want? Excellent job by Rachelle Morgan.
