RULES FOR A PRETTY
WOMAN is set in present day Atlanta, Georgia.
Dr. Lenita Faulkner
has risen above her dirt-poor beginnings in Madoosa County. She has a thriving obstetrics
and gynecology practice, a nine-year-live-in-lover, Ralph, who she is sure is about to
propose, and a fortune in savings. The evening she is sure Ralph is about to propose, he
skips out on her, taking all of her valuable possessions, all of her money, and raising up
a huge credit card debt.
Lenita is
devastated. But thats not the end. She discovers that her mother is dying of cancer.
At the lowest part of her once charmed life, Lenita goes home to pay a visit to her
mother. And there she discovers a simple list of rules she penned in elementary school to
help her survive her traumatic school years.
Since Lenitas
love life is just as troubled, she decides she needs to make a list of relationship rules.
Such as Rule #7: I will never again go fetch the
beer or Rule #2: I will only change to suit
myself. As she meets less-than-desirable men, she adds new rules.
Now if only she
could find the man of her dreams and can have children before its too late.
Lenita is very well
developed and I could easily relate to her desire to have a husband and family. Ive
never been hurt as much as Lenita was with her first lover, but my first breakup was
enough to send me on a tailspin, certain Id never find the one true love of my life.
Lenita really managed to pull herself together after each devastating loss, managing to
keep hoping and dreaming of Mr. Right.
