Historical Romance

PRAIRIE PEACE by Ginger Simpson

After a chance meeting, Cecile Palmer falls in love at first sight.  Cecile marries drifter, Walt Williams, and they set off for their new home on the Prairie.  But the home that the innocent and spoiled Cecile envisioned is nothing like the home she is to live.  The ranch is far from civilization and Cecile realizes how harsh the Prairie can be to a young lady unsure of it.  Cecile quickly becomes pregnant and still adjusts to her role as a farmer’s wife.  When Walt heads out for winter supplies and never returns, Cecile is sure he is dead and she worries over spending the winter on her own.  When a Sioux Indian ends up on Cecile’s doorstep with injuries that need tending, Cecile realizes just how vulnerable she really could be all alone in the middle of nowhere.  When Lone Eagle offers to take Cecile home to live in with his people throughout the winter, Cecile is hesitant, yet relents and her life is forever changed.

Life among the Sioux Indians is good for Cecile; she feels accepted and safe and awaits the birth of her child.  Cecile and Lone Eagle soon begin a relationship and she feels happy.  But when word reaches the tribe that there is a possibility that Walt is still alive, Cecile is torn in two, loving two men and the choices she must make.  Will Cecile choose the love she had for Walt or will she stay with Lone Eagle and raise the child he claimed as his own?

Ginger Simpson’s debut novel, Prairie Peace, though released months ago, shows her talent for the historical times and is a touching romance.  From Cecile and Walt’s quick marriage, meeting Lone Eagle and learning Walt is still alive, it is quite fast-paced and emotions are constantly changing.  In Prairie Peace, Ms. Simpson realistically and beautifully depicts the uncivilized plains that had been known to hurt many and the Sioux tribe is shown for the caring and heartwarming family they are.  The scenery is depicted in all its roughness, yet its beauty through the author’s compelling words.

Prairie Peace is a wide open tale that covers romance, suspense, self-discovery and emotional choices.  Ginger Simpson is a writer whose books should be added to one’s library, to be read over and over again.
